I've cracked my main crash. It was the crappy Thunder one that came with the cheap kit but it had a nice attack to it, and now it sounds like a riveted ride with this extra high-frequency wash coming from the discontinuous rim section. The crack's only about an inch long and took me ages to track down to confirm my suspicions, and the thing's still usable but it's not the same. And a replacement will be i) expensive and ii) not the same.

Look, I know I've been hitting it with big sticks on a regular basis for two years but I'm still quite surprised.

Can you not get hold of an equally cheap thunder one to replace it?

Technically possible, I suppose. I don't think they ever sold separate ones, I think they just did whole cheap drumkits. I also don't think they're going any more, this kit (snares make great laptop tables) was second hand and is at least ten years old. The odds on finding someone selling a Thunder cymbal at all are low, I think.

That was going to be my next suggestion. You might be able to pick up an old kit for less than buying a new cymbal.

I don't want to think about the postage charge for an entire drumkit. I don't want to think about the postage charge for one moderately delicate piece of brass a foot and a half across and weighing a good couple of kilos, neither.

Umm, yeah, I might have missed an important noun out there.
