New toy goodness

On further research, what I really need is an external soundcard that plugs into my laptop's PCMCIA socket. My laptop is second hand and not the highest speed ever but it's principally a cunningly dinky and usable Thinkpad, and when recording practices through a single mic sits next to my drumkit on a music stand. A sort of mixing desk, monitoring device and phantom power provider that plugs into it would be just about ideal. Hooray for technology!
