Enough Science For Now

shermaramaI have done two reactions on each of seventeen samples and I have a mountain of results. The last one's still running for another half-hour or so and then it's tidying up and off to the station. Newcastle became much more clement during yesterday afternoon and is something like actually warm today; yesterday after work I was feeling up to a bit of a stroll so I wandered around and crossed the Tyne bridge and the Gateshead Millenium Tipping Bridge, which I even got to see tipping even though it was only because of a tourist boat that makes it tip up, goes through, turns immediately round and goes back through and away again. I had Chinese for tea after spotting 'Chinatown' on the multitude of small but useful maps that the council has thoughtfully fixed to lamp-posts all over the place, and I completely failed to recognise any places at all from thirteen years ago as a Durham undergraduate. A lot of Newcastle looks like it's been rebuilt recently, though, and I had a good hard squint at the Gate complex as a possible site of something I used to remember being there.
So it's back to London and I'm not sure what exactly for, if you follow me. I want to go home but I'm not sure the London place is home, exactly, especially not after getting to spend a night in my own bed in Brighton last weekend. I think it was ten years almost to the day since I moved in, that night, and if not that it was the exact ten year anniversary of that bed. I don't quite know where I'm at emotionally, still, and I don't know what I'm doing with this weekend generally although clearly some sunshine should be involved, and perhaps lidos, even though they'll be packed. I heard nothing back about the rescheduling of the gig last Sunday, and I know Jodie can't do this Sunday, so I suppose I can assume that's not happening. Oo, and an old Brighton friend who's now in London said something about living on the carnival route, so that might be Monday, but that's impossibly far away at the minute. Anyone doing anything tonight where they could deal with the company of a gently frazzled scientist?
