Jan. 9th, 2009 10:48 pmI didn't explain the fluff. I also have a new drysuit, custom-made so it fits, but I couldn't bring myself to pay for a custom-made undersuit too. The drysuit is a membrane type, which means that it's sort of like wearing a thick rubbery-plasticky bag that seals at your neck and wrists, and your average rubbery-plasticky bag doesn't have much insulation value so you have an undersuit which is basically a wearable duvet. So I have been on to Pennine Outdoor again and ordered lots of metres of Pertex, a breathable outer shell fabric, and 150 gsm Thinsulate for the filling, and Meraklon, which is wicking, insulating knitted stuff for the inside lining and comes in a tube. Actually all this fabric has cost me nearly as much as an undersuit but I shall be entertained by making my own and I should have enough leftovers to make some other odds and ends, like a sort of bodywarmer version for summer to go over a single layer of thermals. Perhaps I could go and live somewhere cold after all. Anyway all this fluff had arrived at the house while I was in Glasgow so I did have to open it and look at it all last night, which didn't help with the getting sleep.
Also I bought a torque wrench, which was waiting for me in the post at work today. My car's got a dodgy glow plug and I'm going to change them myself; it looks like Sunday's going to be less freezing so I might do it then. And maybe give the poor thing a wash, since some parts of semi-enclosed bodywork like the area behind the top of the boot have gone green with growing things.
I should go to bed. I might even actually do it.
