Jan. 25th, 2009 08:31 pmWhat else have I been up to recently? I went to the boat show last weekend at the Excel Centre, with some people from the diving club and Tom and Matt from Brighton. The sailing boats were interesting but the luxury gin palace affairs just struck me as tacky and pointless. They're so heavily styled that they're going to look outdated very quickly, but mainly, I think if I had that much money I could think of something more interesting to do with it than spend it on what's effectively a very expensive caravan.
The whole of the week in between was spent keeping my head down at work. Also moving office halfway though the week, although after a year and a half that means I've got an office with a window again and can see what's happening out in the real world. There have been other, ah, disturbances in the force, and from unexpected quarters, but I don't know what effect that'll have in the long term.
Since I'm now pretty much entirely well, we decided to go out on Saturday night. Someone from the diving club was having a surprise 30th birthday party thrown for him, in Collier's Wood. I didn't remember having been there before but as soon as we got to the tube station I remembered having been there on a Tube Walk last year, and at almost exactly the same time last year, since both times I'd been seeing the Creme Egg adverts around but not had one yet and thus solved that in the Costcutter just by the tube station. The party turned out to be in the pub in the middle of the craft market thing that we visited as part of the Tube Walk too, oddly. And then we went to Black Plastic, or rather, we took a tube to Bethnal Green and then waited outside Black Plastic for an hour before getting in because it had been mentioned in the Guardian and so was heaving full. I'm not certain it was worth it, either. I don't know what I'm looking for in a club night these days, and though that had a certain appeal, the music wasn't doing it for me. Hmm.
