Working the GBBF is definitely more fun than just being a punter. In the upstairs volunteer bit there's a couple of walk-in fridges with stillage inside them where you can help yourself, and then there's a bit which is more like an actual bar which is only open some of the time. When you get to the end of the shift and they call time, all the bar staff have to disappear out of view while the stewards clear the hall. The trick is to take a pint with you, so you get a nice sit-down while the hall's being cleared, and then the bars are very quick to clean and clear after that because the hall's empty. And then shortly after that they announce the opening of the upstairs bar, and everyone flocks up there, and there's all sorts of unusual beers on, and a phalanx of extra volunteers to serve the volunteers with free beer, and the atmosphere was great. Deserved partying after doing some work is always better. They had a Dark Star I've never seen before - Hophead Extra, a deceptively evil thing at 6.8%. I think my beer of the day was Otley O-Garden, though, which is their pisstake of Hoegarden, with massively exaggerated orange-peel and coriander and stuff going on. It was plainly a novelty beer, but a very tasty one.
In other news, I got a fresh crop of jspam comments yesterday, and they're from *gasp* a different IP address. 61.21.214.105, although still registered to the same company, @Home Japan. Most of this lot are about a forthcoming wedding in Hawaii, for some reason.
