A post about rockpools by [livejournal.com profile] squirmelia  reminds me, my club have been diving in the Shetlands for the last two weeks, an expedition to places that normally can't be dived because there's nowhere to get air fills, so they took their own compressor. I would have loved to have been on this trip but at the start of the year I wasn't qualified or experienced enough, and by the middle of the year it looked like I could probably have done it but it was clear it would be difficult to afford either the time or the money. But the photos are amazing. I've seen vis which is called good for the UK, but never anything like this. One of the first photos in there looks like someone floating in midair over a slightly misty hillside, not a UK dive.

This may well be the first time I've ever seen a post on my friendslist about my home town, perhaps more excited than I should be about this!. The Unst bus shelter is famous (famous in Shetland at least), it has its own website and everything.

That blog has some great photos! Gah, I've not dived for over a year now and never in the UK, (only ever done a bit of high-vis warm water diving, nothing especially difficult.)

Great pictures -- that octopus is lovely. I've never seen an octopus (indeed no cephalopods at all) in the UK. Still, we're off to Oban in a few weeks, maybe there...

We have seen cuttlefish, though, including one that was sleeping - it was on the bottom and its skirt was shimmering like it was snoring.

I also like the octopus!
