Which reminds me

A post about rockpools by squirmelia  reminds me, my club have been diving in the Shetlands for the last two weeks, an expedition to places that normally can't be dived because there's nowhere to get air fills, so they took their own compressor. I would have loved to have been on this trip but at the start of the year I wasn't qualified or experienced enough, and by the middle of the year it looked like I could probably have done it but it was clear it would be difficult to afford either the time or the money. But the photos are amazing. I've seen vis which is called good for the UK, but never anything like this. One of the first photos in there looks like someone floating in midair over a slightly misty hillside, not a UK dive.

This may well be the first time I've ever seen a post on my friendslist about my home town, perhaps more excited than I should be about this!. The Unst bus shelter is famous (famous in Shetland at least), it has its own website and everything.

I see, yes... I'm afraid that mainly reminds me of a kids' TV programme called Sorry I've Got No Head, a sort of Fast Show for kids, and one of the regular sketches is about a school somewhere remote and Scottish where there is only one pupil. The school's single solitary teacher and janitor setting up a school disco for him, that kind of thing. That would be the bus stop he'd get too, you see.

That blog has some great photos! Gah, I've not dived for over a year now and never in the UK, (only ever done a bit of high-vis warm water diving, nothing especially difficult.)

UK diving isn't necessarily difficult - this lot were making work for themselves but they enjoy that sort of thing. You have to take more action against the cold which tends to mean more weight which can turn it into hard work sometimes, but there's not usually anything tricky about it.

Great pictures -- that octopus is lovely. I've never seen an octopus (indeed no cephalopods at all) in the UK. Still, we're off to Oban in a few weeks, maybe there...

I've still not seen an octopus in the UK, although people who've been doing the same dive as me came up having seen one. Usually Warwick, in fact, the bloke who spotted this one; he must have some secret way with them.

We have seen cuttlefish, though, including one that was sleeping - it was on the bottom and its skirt was shimmering like it was snoring.
