I'm convinced that [livejournal.com profile] absinthecity will like Miss Pain, but I can't tell if this is just because of how much the singer reminds me of her, indeed I can't get a clear picture of Abi in my mind right at the minute because of it. Let's gloss over the minor detail that I'm unsure of her tastes in music anyway.

The night was called My First Nightmare but it's a shame they had one, with something technical going wrong in just about every song. There are few bands better suited to filling in, though, being able to do that convincingly by reading Little Red Riding Hood. Apart from that they're two girls and one boy, a guitar, lots of synths, a theremin, a megaphone, endless forties and fifties outfits, little red books of sins, a slideshow and a convincing line in abstraction. Fucking Machine is accompanied by the caressing of pictures of steam trains, and is apparently about the benefits and disadvantages of impersonal fucking with young men. They make lots of sounds and pin them all together by not appearing to care to, and in a certain style it works. There is glamour but the huge mechanical element stands in danger of fading it, and there is rhythm but I'd never call it groove..

If you've been in the ladies in just about any music venue anywhere in Brighton or London you've probably seen Miss Pain scrawled in pink marker somewhere, anyway, and in case you'd ever wondered, that's some faint idea of what they do.

Wow, I'm intrigued! How can I hear something by this band? Would they have stuff to download?

p.s. my musical tastes are basically anything good, which doesn't help I know, but it just means I'm not concerned about issues like genre.
