Everything Up And Running
Dec. 14th, 2009 07:54 pmI have heating! I have hot water! Here is the steam emitting from my new flue:

I think I'm going to get away with leaving the area around the flue unrepaired on the outside until the outside is redecorated, which I'm hoping to make happen as soon as the decorating season starts properly next year. There's some more internal bits will need doing, like doing something with the gas pipe that now runs along the back wall of the bathroom on top of the skirting board, but there will be much redecoration in the new year.
Meanwhile, I've been churning away at the Couch to 5k for the last eight weeks, and it's finally worked. This evening, in a short gap between the stream of freecyclers, I went and ran around Preston Park for half an hour; here's my route on gmaps pedometer, and it was 5.063 km. Another of my 101 Things bites the dust, but it leaves the question of what to do next. Keep up doing 5k a couple of times a week? Try and do longer distances? Try some swimming training and do an aquathlon? I see now how these things can get out of hand.
Right now, though, I'm going to have a bath. With hot water, out of a tap. It might be the first really credible bath I've had at home in three years, there being weird things about all the baths I lived with in London.
