The snow is not as serious this side of the Downs as it is elsewhere in Sussex, but we've still got some. I've never seen it snow all day here before, as it did yesterday. Fortunately I haven't got any particular reason to have to go out, what with working from home and having food in, Tom's currently unemployed and leaving the country on Sunday (well, if Gatwick's working then) and Chris worked from home for months in London so his employers aren't being stupid enough to try and make him get to Lancing.

Although just because none of us *had* to go out, doesn't mean we didn't. It was Tom's last Wednesday night down the Sailing Club for at least several months, so we went down there too and joined the hardcore drinkers. There's about three or four inches of snow here, which half-froze in layers as it fell throughout the day, so it was part-packed, part-crunchy and pretty easy to walk on. The centre of town was eerily quiet, though. No buses, most of the clubs and half the pubs seemed to be closed, there were occasional taxis, but on the way home we walked up the middle of the road all the way from West Street to the station and never once had to move over. With boots, waterproofs and gloves, it was a lovely night to be out.

Oh, and, B&Q wouldn't give me interest-free credit, as far as I could tell because I'm a student, even though there was no option to point out that some students get bursaries equivalent to a reasonable full-time salary. Inevitably, though, by the time I'd gone through and made up the giant list of all the things I wanted, I couldn't be arsed to go somewhere else and work it all out again, and there was still a substantial discount and free delivery for having spent that much, so I've gone and bought it all anyway. This may cause an interesting financial state later in the spring, depending on whether the not-particularly-comprehensible letter I got from the managing agents yesterday really does mean that they want me to pay them £4,3011.04 right now, with the bulk of the money apparently being needed for a £6,000 reserve fund they think they ought to keep for us and the rest going towards the external decorating that they may or may not get round to actually organising this year, four years after they first promised it and six years after it was due.

Bah. It's all very scenic round here, at least. And, I forgot to mention, we went for the first dive of the year on Saturday, under a magnificent but cold blue sky, on the City of Brisbane, a wreck that's sort of half intact and half splattered wreckage. The vis wasn't bad, the giant clouds of fish were lurking further away from the circle of torchlight than usual, but there were tompot blennies everywhere, sitting out in the open looking totally unconcerned. It was a good dive.
