Illuminatus were better than some of the bands we've played with recently, in that the interesting sound lasted a good couple of songs before it became clear they'd used all their tricks up. I liked it, basically, but it needed to carry on going somewhere else.

Tiny Demons were bad, bad, bad, yet, criminally, thought they were the bee's knees, the dog's bollocks, the porn star's posing pouch. I have no time for watching the most basic Yank rock delivered in artful leather and bandanas, like Guns N Roses with all shred of talent removed; nor did anyone else, we'd all scarpered by halfway through the set.

And, and, The Bad Fucks did a gig on Friday night in Burgess Hill and lo, it went well, even the new songs, and was a bloody good laugh. There was a great cymbal-busy straight-ahead punk drummer who even lent me his nice hefty snare, and a fun atmosphere, though I continue to discover how divorced from the crowd a drummer is back there. I wonder how we can get Oz more upfront, and if he'd even want to?

The worst case of being behind the times is not having noticed SON's review in Organ, despite allegedly checking the demo reviews regularly, for nearly three months, to the point of even sending them two of the same tracks on the HTC compilation in the meantime. Bizarrely, it's right next to a review of Action.

'SON OF NOTHING – Feisty metal edged punky hard rock that doesn’t really grab us much despite the high octane energy….. there’s a hint of danger here, when the songs get a little more interesting and they dare to take a few more musical risks then they may well be worth shouting about, not ready yet though… '

Again, probably fair enough. I've got a lot of time for Organ's reviews. All apart from, in this case, the word 'feisty'. Pfah. Probably unintentional but it reminds of people who discover that I play the drums and say things like 'you go girl!'

So, in summary, Stop!

A) This band isn't ready yet

or B) Carry on!

depending on your choice of slogan - beer advert or ageing elderly infirm and recently reired running gag? How do you want to get on people's wicks today?

"And that's Carry On! spelt c, a, r, r, i, o, n."

Ah, the words of Kenneth Horne. Massively inappropriate but still a gag I can't resist.
