My day so far has involved getting up at half six in the morning to drive Chris and his mate Hanko to somewhere north of Chichester, with their bikes strapped on the back of the car, for a 104 km cycle race, the logic being that they would be too knackered after it to really be best suited to driving themselves around. I proceeded to mess with the logic a bit by taking the opportunity to run a bit short of 10k around the country lanes of Sussex in the morning sunshine. Some of it was over a big hill, and at the crest there was a huge swathe of Sussex laid out before me, and then I ran down a flinty path to a village where I looked at a flint church, and some walkers gaped at me, and a Serious Runner said good morning to me, and then I ran back to where I'd started via not the hill but longer distance. It's kind of uncanny to find myself being the sort of person who goes running, and enjoys it, as in actually enjoys the running as well as enjoying being in random bits of scenic countryside and looking at things. I was also enjoying being on my own there, something about that is good, I don't know what. Like proof you don't need to organise a special expedition, you can just go, if you've gone on your own. And then I spent the rest of the morning reading a good book in the sunshine.
Then we came back here and did stuff and then, seriously, The Moff is a bloody genius and that last episode of Doctor Who was so good I'm almost not upset there won't be any more til Christmas, and then we had an Arkwright's pizza (these are the best pizzas in Brighton that aren't actually La Cucina pizzas which are the best pizzas I've had anywhere but cost three times as much as an Arkwright's because you cook Arkwright's ones yourself), and now I'm watching a pretty excellent tennis match (Murray vs. Simon), and then I think we might be going to the pub in a bit.
Today has been remarkably good, all in all. Especially given that it started so bloody early.
