"Trait snapshot: changeable, in the middle, suspicious, somewhat traditional, dislikes chaos, down to earth, group oriented, practical... you scored in the middle on the overall factors of this test."

Apparently I'm a hedonistic exercising intellectual, with very little tendency to materialism, mysticism, dominance or being Peter Pan. But I do like arguments, although I'm also inclined towards cautiousness. *shrugs*

So anyway, at the weekend I went running, doing intervals in an effort to get my 5k time down, then went to a church service at Lancing College Chapel, and then went to London to go to a party and ended up staying there overnight because I was having too good a time to go home when tube o'clock came round. After the weeks and months of quasi-isolation writing the thesis, it was really good to see people, chat about random stuff, and, this might sound odd, crash on a floor and then putter around with a hangover trying to help clean up a bit in the morning. It's kind of a nostalgia thing. Amazonia's floor is remarkably comfortable, too.

A friend of ours has just become the verger at Lancing College Chapel, and we were there partly to see him in verging action, but mainly for a choral evensong held annually in tribute to the building itself. There was a sermon of extraordinary fail from the vicar, though. Among other things he was talking about how it was a shame that someone like Stephen Fry was on the front cover of the Radio Times this week, not the Pope what with the Pope coming to visit here, (um, media person on the cover of a media magazine? no?) and how Stephen was lucky to have been let back into the community life of his old school, Uppingham, after expulsion, which was no doubt because he had money and fame to offer. And how Lancing College should consider looking up some former students who have left in disgrace to consider offering them reconciliation if they turn out to have some money they can help support the school with. Because, and this is the best bit, that would be the Christian thing to do. Me and Chris spent a while making 'arg' faces at each other about it, but failed do anything other than be polite to the vicar afterwards.

Now I must carry on overhauling my kitchen window. I have done some genuinely criminal bodging on the bottom frame involving foam, and the criminal thing about it is that it's worked. It looks like a window frame, not a disparate collection of half-rotten timber held together with battens and gaffer tape. It's got new glass in it now and everything. And today is being lovely and sunny down here, don't know about anywhere else, so it's good day to have taken the rest of a south-facing window completely out to scrape and paint its workings.
