Oh yeah. Played with the Bad Fucks Friday night in Burgess Hill and stunned the locals into leaving in droves. Thanks to the main bands pulling out we drew last place behind a parade of local band incest. Flaming Amy were bad but intriguing with it, at least, personified in a drummer capable of rapid-fire solos and fills that turned out to be randomly executed and detached from any sort of sense of rhythm.

The important bit of the weekend is that Son Of Nothing have been recording. We put an ad out asking for anyone interested in recording us in a live fashion rather than the tedious instrument-by-instrument approach used by many places. The only respondent was an American called Gerard who, at this point, I'm willing to vote some sort of medal. We went to a place in Surrey and set up everything all at once and got the central cores of a total of eight tracks done in one long afternoon. The early evening and this morning saw the guitars and bass tidied up and retracked as necessary, though a couple of tracks are one-take blinders and needed nothing else. Then the rest of the afternoon doing vocals, with awards for patience going to Gerard's wife and one-year-old babies who seemed not to mind having a metal band in their kitchen shouting aggressive vocals at full belt. Things sounded promising at this point with all the information actually there, but I wasn't expecting anything like as good as the evening's mixing work managed to put out. Only 'I Want' has been given the full job so far and that only in first draft, to be tried out on different systems, but it's shocking. The middle eight has always given me mental goose bumps but now it can raise literal ones. Yus's guitar does something spoony that I can only describe as the sound of cosmic traffic. I'm stuck in Gatwick Airport waiting for a late train, halfway home from Sutton to Brighton, and paying good money to rant here about it. Honest, I never guessed you could get something like this from a bunch of motley amps and unlikely rooms and an enthusiast with an Alesis and a iMac. I wonder what I'll think of it in the morning?
