shermaramaI sent off for a singles subscription to Organ and by way of bonus they sent me a heap of back issues and this in particular was one I was after but on hearing it I'm not quite sure I'm getting the point.
Now, the point seems blindingly obvious; it's fuzzed up rough rock and roll with trash drums and bluesy yelling. Doesn't that sound good? But when you stop and listen there's little in the way of real song under all the decoration, and the decoration, I hate to say it, isn't done well enough to be worthwhile. Of course the aim of such a sound is to swagger like it was done in a sleazy back room bar inbetween vanishing off with worshipping young women. But it sounds too much like it was done in the echoey back room of a disappointing pub someplace suburban with a devoted girlfriend keeping an eye on the coats while the bemused landlord peers round from the other bar. Perhaps it's just the recording that's the problem but the recording makes them sound like just another support band on the small-venue treadmill. I don't know what I'm looking for here but this isn't it.
