May. 13th, 2003 04:07 pmNow, where are we at?
There's still ongoing with Tina; she's thinking of trying to nobble Travis back, since he keeps complaining that those mates that he decided to make the band out of eventually are changing the songs too much and he's not sure he likes it. I've gone off the boil on contacting people, I read the ads every so often but I'm not finding much of use, but Tina's now getting into it, putting up ads and even harrassing customers where she works.
Demos keep disappointing me. That stoner guitarist's is, once I realise he has a realistic idea of what it is, not bad, actually, but there's a lot to be done to make any of those ideas into songs. The singer/songwriter I was hoping an awful lot more of, and it wasn't that it was that bad, really, but it was short of some important things, like song-writing as opposed to playing a bunch of chords, and over-subscribed on some others, like corny lyrics, including one God-bothering one that there is no way I'm going to do. I triumphed in the field of diplomacy here, though, and in return for being constructive about it, got goodwill and a load of useful links to promoters and the like. Go shermy, or some such.
SON continues to go well. We're writing new songs at the minute and I'm quite chuffed with the way that works. Paul brings in lyrics and some fine punk hooks, Oz metals it up, I add from whichever of those seems appropriate and fiddle with the dynamic, and Yus adds extra guitar weirdness or chunge on top. This works because Paul wants his punk songs metalled up and Oz is a proper metal-head with a fondness for punk, and both of these are things I like and territory I can move in easily. Sunday's practice did go well. It's difficult to describe from how deep the relief and cheer rise when that happens.
(And Sunday's practice was in the middle of a day otherwise filled with people and pubs and complicated use of public transport systems (total for the day, two bus journeys, five train journeys, and six tube journeys involving five different lines) and other sorts of fun, but as I flagged this journal up on there the other day, let me reciprocate; if you want to know about the other stuff I think about apart from the musical doings, go find out about a BBS called Monochrome...)
Last up, I've got a practice with the Bad Fucks on Saturday, apparently. It being at Monster is a relief, as their gear is good and I know the bloke that works there. Still, this is going to be my first go at being officially behind the kit, as opposed to just taking over for a quick jam mid-practice, and I'm not sure how much I'm going to disappoint them.
