Friday night, went to the Free Butt to see Spookey, drank beer, moved on to the Hob, drank more beer, went back to friends' place, drank more beer; ended up in a bed I probably shouldn't have been in but that seemed to work out all right, really.

Saturday, got out of there eventually, went to the market, went to the Green Party office to get a load of election gumph to stuff through local letterboxes, did various academic work, went to the Evening Star to wet the head of a new baby and catch up with a bunch of people I haven't seen in a while, went to the House of Metal party and had a storming evening talking to lots of people, dancing, doing silly things with pineapple and generally having fun. Crashed out so abruptly I don't remember it at all, I'd guess when the caffiene from the Evening Star's Espresso Stout ran out on me at about four in the morning.

Sunday, woke up confused but very comfortable since some lovely but unknown person had covered me with a blanket and put a pillow under my head. Helped tidy some, then went home and delivered shed-loads of Green Party gumph in the sunshine. Got barked at by dogs. Laughed at the stupidly optimistic swing graph on the front of the leaflet. Delivered them anyway, not because I'm a rabid Green but because I think it'd be interesting to have a Green in Westminster and if that's going to happen anywhere, it'll be here. Ate fabulous sandwiches in the sunshine, got me drumming kit on, went to the Hob, gig and party ensued as detailed elsewhere. Also found out who gave me the blanket and pillow, which was nice. Made it home eventually but fell asleep in a strange position still fully dressed.

Monday, woke up and got undressed. Er. Did some academic work and stuff, got dressed again. Became the household culinary god by means of poached eggs, potato farls and various accoutrements. Put the drumming kit on again and went to London for a PJ practice, which got some of the new songs a little better set. Went back to the guitarist's to stay over. The flat was by far the most stylish place I'd slept all weekend and I felt terribly oversized metaller, so I played her some random bits of BFs and SON. Felt like I was admitting a guilty secret, then, but good to bring it together some more. The BFs came to see PJ in Brighton and all, even if there was absolutely no time to introduce anyone. I've got used to the poly approach or something.

Tuesday, got up and put the drumming kit on again, went to Harrow to spend the day recording. Now some songs play themselves, and they can be harder to remember as a result because it's all about feel, and some songs are carefully built of bits that you can hear sound good together and which you have no trouble remembering the intended structure of but they can turn out to be a nightmare to record. Because you've carefully built it and you think it sounds good you don't want to change it, even when you've done half a dozen takes of it and are screaming with frustration at not being able to do cleanly this thing you're sure sounds fine everywhere else. That happened to me for one song and to Amrit for another, making the whole exercise take far longer than it could. My particular problem track is making me learn to play bass heel up, but I wish I hadn't been having to do it right on the spot. On the other hand I'm quite chuffed at the way we're doing all the engineering ourselves, whilst being faintly horrified on listening back to the tracks I did a couple of weeks ago and hearing the problems I didn't at the time. Came home, did some more academic work, and finally at about four in the morning (it'd have been earlier but there was something on the radio I couldn't turn off), with worn-out back from all the carrying shite and sleeping funny, oncoming sore throat from a night with stuffy central heating and a day with air conditioning (and, you know, three evenings of drinking too much, talking over loud music and sleeping little) I got to go to my own bed. Quite how I managed to get up again five hours later and go to work feeling almost back to full health already I'm not quite sure.
