Piece of crap
Jul. 20th, 2005 11:54 pmWell, that was a waste of time. Went down to the Engine Rooms to see Mr. Green Vendetta and On Trial and some Irish folk/punk band called Neck. MGV were worthwhile. On Trial turned out to have cancelled the day before, only it wasn't mentioned anywhere, not even at the venue, so I didn't get to see them. And Neck took an actual hour from the end of MGV's set to get everything together, about eighteen instruments including banjo, mandolin, fiddle and elbow-powered bagpipes which I think were Uilleann pipes. All very well but when they finally did start up they weren't much cop. It'd be good music for a party, but not headliners for a gig. The fiddle was good and the pipes interesting and the bass did a notably excellent job given that he had to mostly keep out of the way to avoid crashing the multiple instruments above him, but the music just wasn't up to much. Nothing had anything to say, the constantly fighting melody lines got on my nerves, the drummer needed to be tighter than that for the fast stuff, and the nowty tart frowning at everything, chewing gum all the way through the gig, who had to get someone else to tune her mandolin and couldn't hold a tune when singing, shouldn't have been allowed up there in the first place.
Anyway.
Anyway.
