Punch Judy are at it again this evening, at the Caernarvon Castle (just up beyond the bridge) at a Club Fabulous night, with a band called Hot Rocks. It should be a laugh.

The gig offers suddenly started pouring in this week, I dunno, and us still without a completed demo. I've been learning a hell of a lot about mixing, compressors, reverb, all this, thanks to a lot of online articles and feedback from some nice people on mono. Getting there. Keep getting sidetracked by other things, like the gig we played at Quidrock here in Brighton on Tuesday. I'm going to have drummed four days in a row by tomorrow, including one recording session, (BFs, ninja style; kit miking, sound capture gear set-up, drum and bass parts for twelve songs, pack up, out again, in a total of two hours.) two gigs and two practice sessions. My shoulders don't feel very pleasant to be in but dammit they look good.

Is that at the 333 Club? Our singer was supposed to be going seeing another band there tonight, but it was them that gave us the number for the promoter for this gig so it's their own fault she can't go.

I think the demo's not so much for promoters, after all we seem to have little trouble getting gigs anyway, as just that people want some recording. The Myspace page could do with music on it, people ask us after gigs if we've got a CD, that sort of thing.

Hey hey, this kept happening when I wanted to see General Khaki, they kept playing in Brighton on days when I wasn't there.

The recording session was for the Bad Fucks. We have a 19 song set that plays in 15 minutes. Some of the longest ones are, ooh, over a minute long. Given that, only getting 12 done in an hour's recording time is a bit shoddy, really.

Ah no! You should have. Glad you liked it and stuff. I can't even take wild guesses at who you might have been - it's bad enough seeing through stage-lights at the best of times but from behind the drumkit you can't see bugger all.

What did you make of the other acts? Wilf was ace.

I was short and nervous-looking with an army surplus jacket and a "Musicians Against Sweatshops" t-shirt. Anyway... I enjoyed Wilf, definitely; I hope I'm still that energetic when I'm older. I didn't stay for the last act, though, as I wanted to get home - were they any good?

I did notice the t-shirt, now I think of it, but only when looking at the logo on the back. Which means I could now perhaps recognise the back of your head.

Not to be uncharitable but I'd say you had a lucky escape with the headliners. All very early 90s, Charlatans etc., with non-stop widdly guitar, a singer who probably shouldn't and a drummer trying to make up for his lack of skill with bagloads of enthusiasm and big rolls. Quite amusing for a song or two in a school-band nostalgia kind of way, but grating for an entire headlining set.
