I wonder how many drummers have PhDs? Not counting the jazz ones, mind, who need to be Doctors of Rhythym to have any clue what's going on. There are hinterlectual punks with PhDs, for certain, but the question is, are any of them the ones that hit things with sticks?

Interview today for a post at Queen Mary in Mile End. I got offered it on the spot. The supervisor is a secret metaller. The accomodation office say that rentals are fairly easy and realtively cheap to find in Mile End. I'm aiming to start by October so, you know, expect Giant Robot action pretty soon.

PJ gig in the Dirty South in Lewisham tomorrow, should you be at a loose end. I like playing at the Dirty South for one specific reason. There's nothing that special about it as a venue, the excellent leather sofas merely offset the shonky ladies' toilets, and I don't much know what it's like for the rest of the band, but it's great fun for drummers. You get this little riser in the middle of a very wide stage, as well as good monitoring so you can hear what you're doing, and the combination of the space and the sound make me delighted with my big rocking drum sound, like, which makes me hit things even harder and use the extravagant elbow-room, producing the overall effect of being transformed into a sort of musical gorilla. It's great fun.

A long time ago I was in this band (http://www.jitter.co.uk/mofus/), where both myself and the drummer were PhD students. Sorry...

How can you be so drummerist? Look at Phil Collins. On second thoughts, don't. :-)

Congrats! I love it when 'dirty little secrets' work to your advantage. Like when I found out that the president of my company was a biker. Yey!

"Sherman the Musical Gorilla" - that paints a great little picture in my mind :-)

Congrats on the QM thing, sounds like lots of fun.
