Boooots

I have four pairs of broken boots, three army-like and one steel-toe DMs. The uppers are still in usable condition on all four, one of the pairs of army boots were the comfiest boots I ever had, but in all four cases the soles are seriously broken, in a way that no amount of carpet glue or Timpson's stick-on soles will help. They ought to go somewhere, be useful for something, or at least not just go in landfill. Any ideas?

A decent cobblers for resoling?

I don't believe there is such a thing as a decent cobbler's in Brighton. I'm no longer sure there's one anywhere. The shoe-repair-and-key-cutting places say they can send them away for entire new soles, I had this done to one pair, and it was a glue-on job that fell off after about three months. And it cost me more than the original boots.

I'm sure there must be some other more abstract use for them. But I can't think what.

Are they sufficiently together that they can be used as plant pots? xanna has herbs in her broken army boots, and that seems to work quite well.

I was about to say, yes.
In fact for plant pots, broken is better, for drainage you see (unless you pop real plant pots inside). I drilled holes through the soles of mine for the chives and it was hard work.
