Getting all the reams of crap accumulated over nine years out of my flat is a horrible job. I have cheated by only taking out the things I want. I'll go back over the course of the next couple of weekends and sort the rest of it out, I suppose, but the things I picked up this morning after going back down to Brighton for band practice last night might included my only hairbrush, which shows you how much I can be arsed with that.

They also included some veg from Brighton market because I haven't quite got the local food sourcing sorted yet. I don't think I'll ever be able to bring myself to pay for a tube journey just to go food shopping. I've got my bike, though I haven't got round to trying the local roads with it yet - I'm not expecting any trouble, except perhaps in the form of enraging car-drivers by blatantly going faster than them. So far, all the times I might have been doing cycle explorations have been taken up with playing the drums, having dreadful hangovers (the problem with starting drinking at midnight in a day where you got up early, moved all your heavy shite sixty miles and then played a gig, is that you think you can drink lots because you're behind everyone else, when in fact you're rather more in danger of being unnaturally susceptible to booze and thus end up, e.g., swapping trousers with goths, or refusing to sleep *in* your own bed since the party-survival instincts haven't yet been notified that this now *is* your own bed) or attempting to be a student.

The Giant Robots to Make Fuel For Us All Project isn't going too well yet. My supervisor's missus was having a baby yesterday, so he's a bit distracted, like. That means, in combination with other circumstances, that I don't have access to any computer-related things at work til Friday and that I can't enrol permanently and get any books out of the library, or use my security pass on any of the sensor doors. Since I'm in something of a limbo this week, plainly this means I should be sorting useful things out, yes?

What I should be doing:

  • Unpacking the second box of CDs into the filing cabinet
  • Finding that book on instrumentation that I don't remember buying that I expect half my project will end up relying on
  • Bringing the desk upstairs from the kitchen so I can have a desk
  • Unpacking some of the entire box of unsorted filing, by means of filing it
  • Maybe even thinking about reading that book on instrumentation that I don't remember buying
  • Unpacking the box of recipe books, probably to somewhere in the capacious kitchen to make more room in my fairly small room whilst giving the illusion of sharing my recipe books selflessly with the house
  • Gritting my teeth and buying car insurance, even though it's going to cost me £100 more than in Brighton
  • Deciding what I'm going to do about the bloke who rang up about my room possibly being available for rent who sounded much nicer and also more touchingly desperate than others that have rung
  • Seeing about transferring, altering, generally reassigning where officialdom thinks I live, where necessary

What I have done today:

  • Enjoyed deviant sex
  • Carried 23kg of ancient Amstrad to the Post Office and posted it to the Sound of Mull
  • Fleeced FCC (always worthwhile)
  • Eaten a lot
  • Loitered on the internet (though I've joined Freecycle London and enquired about some suspension files)
  • Listened to a bunch of CDs, taking advantage of the novelty of the new situation to hear them afresh
  • Drunk some mead and approved of Jon's choice of mead

Er. Let's see how tomorrow's achievements rack up.

The quantity of emails on freecycle in London means my membership is strictly web only... ;-)

Failed to make the party at all, although sounds like if I had I would have arrived the same time as you. get Kat to drag you out to a pub thing at some point.

I am dealing with having the same thing to do on Sunday by NOT THINKING ABOUT IT AT ALL.
