Earlier today, my highest aim for tomorrow was to go to the Pembury and get gently drunk on tasty beer and have fun with people. Um, it's got a bit more complicated now. Itinerary for tomorrow:

  • Get up
  • Shave me sides
  • Burn off some demo CDs
  • See if my pass really does get me into work at all hours, and print out some demo covers
  • Go to the Pembury in the afternoon, optimistically perhaps by 3pm or so, drink lightly and have fun
  • Take up demos and drum stuff and head to The Dirty South in Lewisham
  • Soundcheck, hang around etc., while Dr. Jarrett intercepts Tom the ex-flatmate from Brighton, who'll be actually coming from Sedbergh via Coventry, and Matt the really ex-housemate who's recently been dividing his time between Australia and Malaysia though tomorrow he'll be coming from Kent, back at the Pembury
  • Play a gig supporting the Alabama 3, and give away demos to anyone who might like us
  • Ignore the fact that Alabama 3 are playing and I've got in for free (otherwise it's like, £20 on the door) and peg it back to the Pembury, hopefully in time to be at least a little unsober by midnight
  • Have fun with people.
I mean, it's essentially the same plan, really, just with travel complications and severe beer-drinking restrictions. But I wouldn't want to be in a band where we turn down gigs because they're inconvenient; if playing a gig is not close to the top of any band member's list of fun things to be doing, that other plans get worked around, they probably shouldn't be bothering.

Tonight's gig wasn't at all bad; it was a night of punk bands and getting the feel of it right was more important than getting it all note-perfect, even Debz agreed. On account of us playing in Denmark Street, Jodie impulse-bought a Telecaster from somewhere nearby and I'm told by them as have more discrimination about guitar sounds than me (and could hear it, which I couldn't from behind the drums) that that was a good idea.

The only significant downside to the evening is that the house drumkit's hardware was very ropey. The snare stand kept slipping down, and swivelling so that the low point was to the left instead of at the front, and thus I have a great lump on my left thigh from whacking it repeatedly with a stick. Ho-hum.
