My mate Des has just got this (these?)
no, I haven't photoshopped it.

That's a 12 string, a 7 string and a 6 string, folks. No, I don't know why either.

Holy fuck. I didn't even know they made triple guitars.

One in three

Not only that: they make the tritar, where each string splits in two part-way down its length. The construction introduces lots of weird non-trivial harmonics which makes the sound slightly atonal:

what's the 7th string on a 7 string guitar?

I'd have a use for a double neck bass & mandolin, but I'm funny like that... ;-)

what the f*ck is that? And why?

I can't imagine you could comfortable reach the lower strings without going over the other side, or tapping chapman stick style or something...

if the strings are in fourths, it must have a huge range...

mmmm. Metal. that's why I Don't Understand... ;-)

I've turned up to gigs and once a studio with my old natural wood finish Westone Thunder to all sorts of snobbery, and I'm always amused afterwards when they admit actually, yes, it sounds nice and does the job... similarly my bass amp is an 80s transistor head (Leech) and a self built cabinet, and it's fine.

I should really stop playing om the internet and get some housework done...

It could only be cooler if it had an electric mandolin on there as well.

OMG! You'd have to have long arms to reach the bottom guitar, and long fingers to work that bass! I don't think I've seen someone play live on one of those things - it's probably a real sight to see!

Oh yes! Totally impractical and probably a complete bitch to play, but I approve heartily! ;o)

PS: If you've got more than 4 strings, you're a freaking guitarist, not a bass player! ;o)
