Recently, I have done some things:
  • Went to the beer festival and drank lots of beer, and met up with someone I haven't seen since about 2003
  • Went into a sandwich shop with Jon and got asked if we were brothers, by a lad who still didn't twig despite how bemusedly we must have said, 'no...'
  • Saw Transformers. Excellent animation, vague approach to a story, worrying bit at the end with the humans apparently not minding an audience of sentient car-robots
  • Saw a proper old-fashioned little jazz band in the Palm Tree pub, with a fascinatingly good drummer - casual as you like but hitting everything so very deftly
  • Attempted to see meteorites by driving to Essex, but found it was still full of places and light as much as anywhere else in Greater London, though did see one probable case
  • Nearly got myself into trouble by deploying the automatic finger when being aggressively overtaken late at night in Essex, and resolved to stop that
  • Went to the the pub and played Britannia, a complicated board game involving dice-roll combat, a map of Britain split into counties that make historians splutter and the inevitable defeat of the Belgae, though we're going to have to come back to it another day because it takes so fiendishly long. Proved, however, that there are no Welshmen in Cheshire
  • Told Chris about there being meteorites while he was outdoors and somewhere countrylike, which meant he saw loads of them, before stopping off in Mile End park and seeing at least a small handful of them myself
  • Played a gig, where we were supported by a lady named Pam, who played nice tinkly tunes on her nice electric piano about chick-lit-buzzword subjects and never once got near any of her top notes, induced the entire audience of nice-Pam-fans to leave by our second song, and got matey with the slightly laughable but enthusiastic Italian band who headlined, where the band consist of drum machine and mixer operated by grinning bouncing loon, live actual bass, djembe, and vocals by a slightly portly short man all in leather
  • Bought a chocolate twist for tenpence - hooray for late-night supermarkets in the centre of large cities
Tomorrow, I am going to:
  • Go for an interview/induction for an elective course about energy at the London Business School
  • Have a pop at UCL's finance department, who are sending me final demands for fees that they've repeatedly been told I don't have to pay
  • Quite possibly finish my prototype new photoreactor
  • Go and see about getting fabric and other accoutrements for dressing like a girl at the weekend
And then make it up from there, really.

Oh, you didn't finish it? It's really, really long, isn't it!

HURRAY FOR BRITANNIA!

it is years since i didn't finish a game of it...

although the civilisation board game takes nearly as long (at least you can theoretically "win" that one, which i seem to recall was a problem in britannia...)
