  • The end-of-first-year reports got handed to Ivan Parkin, new second supervisor, this very morning by me and Josie, and we'll get viva'd on them next week. Ha.
  • There was something that had every appearance of a functional meeting yesterday about designing the HT frames for the robot. Dude.
  • I have rewired my ultrabright LEDs because I'd got the workings of the LED driver wrong in my head and hadn't drawn a proper circuit diagram, like a fool, but at least that's sorted now, and I'm going to do some faffing with methylene blue tomorrow.
  • There's been a bit of household uproar over the landlord sticking up the rent on the tenancy renewal by a substantial amount with very little notice. We've got him to acknowledge that he handled it badly and make a better offer, but it remains to be seen what we'll do about this. The possiblity of telling him to get stuffed and move the household en masse is probably more amusing in theory than practice but is still tempting.
  • I finally did get a new phone, the Samsung G600 having ticked all the boxes. There is only one thing wrong with this phone and I'll find a way to beat it yet; the profiles only give you control of a small subset of the irritating selection of twingles and twitters that it is apparently mandatory for all modern electronic equipment to make. The only way to turn them all off is to put it in silent mode, and that profile will only let you have a vibrating alert, not a ringtone. A phone that rings when it's ringing and is otherwise mute, is that too much to ask?
  • Egypt, December, and the boy Wilson. PLAN. Muahahahaha. Though the notion of wearing pretend wedding rings to make things easier gives me brainspin.
  • One last thing; I was prompted today to look up Remote Control, the TV game show that was hosted by Tony Wilson. It turns out to have been a British version of a US programme made for MTV, and I've never seen the US version but I bet it worked a little differently. There were some things in this that are surely only going to work this well with British understatement involved, although also, in this clip, a definite Americanism that perhaps gives away where the script was coming from. Anyway, here's a link to the only bit of it I can find on youtube which may enlighten those of you who have no clue what I'm on about. Shame I couldn't find John Thompson dressed up as a giant lamb chop for the Beat The Meat round, though.
