Ooo. I was just wondering whether the rugby league season had started yet and looking up fixtures. It turns out that the match where Harlequins RL play Wigan at home, the only match of the year where I'm certain I can see Wigan play in London, is on the 9th of February, a week on Saturday. It appears to be quite cheap to get in, only a fiver for me as a student. That's how much it used to cost for a full-price adult to get into the rugby at Wigan back when they were at Central Park in the early 90s, though I wouldn't like to think how much the JJB stadium charges these days. 

So, is anyone up for going to watch some real live rugby league? Wigan aren't the team they were, and the atmosphere at a union stadium in west London isn't going to be what it used to be in a crowd of 35,000 on standing terraces at Central Park but that's not the point.

I would be up for that. I haven't seen a live sporting fixture for a very long time.

Me either, actually. The last one would have been a football match (ew) between Brighton & Hove Albion and Peterborough, probably about three years ago.

I think I was at this game, or at least one with a similar scoreline. I went to see Tigers matches a fair bit with dad when I was <18. Certainly never seen a game of the Other Code, though.

Are you still up for this, by the way? I haven't worked out the exact practicalities for getting to Twickenham yet. If you are still up for it, where should we meet?

Yes. Kickoff is at 3pm, I see. Train from Waterloo to Twickenham or Whitton stations seems best - meet at Waterloo at 1pm? my phone number is here

Right. I'd say Twickenham rather than Whitton - they look much the same distance from the stadium and the trains will get to Twickenham first.

Also, this may be a poor idea but how about 1pm at Liverpool Street rathe than Waterloo? Or, to put it another way, there appears to be something going on at Liverpool Street at 1pm - see http://www.facebook.com/n/?event.php&eid=25473632176 if you're on facebook. They reckon it'll be done by 1.15. Either way should still make the 13.50 from Waterloo, which gets into Twickenham at 14.10, which should be enough time to get there and get sorted. She says, optimistically.

I did have that in mind, actually, but I don't see going to the rugby in the afternoon as precluding having a party in the evening. If my hideously broad accent once I've been watching rugby league doesn't drive everyone away, that is.

Skolars are in National Two. I should probably go and check them out, as they're my local team these days, but the last time I showed interest in them a couple of years ago they seemed stupidly expensive for the level they were at at the time. Checking the site now shows that its a tenner to get in, which is fair enough but I'm sure it was £15 a few years ago.

I would have been there if I'd managed to get a cheap season ticket in time, managed to dither too long though.

I went there a fair bit last summer because they had these £12 tickets going, and because sitting in the sun with a cold pint watching a game was a great thing. The atmosphere was pretty good when I saw them play Wigan, but then that was maybe because over half the crowd were away fans.
