There's a movement that stirs at about this time every year, trying to make St. George's Day into an analogue of the thing we've made St. Patrick's, that is, an evening for going out and drinking beer, only in the case of St. George, real ale instead of Guinness.  I can't see how the causes of it aren't mostly marketing, to get more people in pubs, but whatever the cause, I'm broadly in favour of it. This is because St. George's Day is my birthday, and I'm all in favour of people going to the pub and drinking beer on my birthday.

The question is, which pub should I go and do that in this year, and would you like to join in? My immediate thought is the Pembury. What do you reckon?

damnit i'll be sitting at home waiting for my Big Sis to show up... chances of her wanting to trek out to pub on the other side of London are slim as she's a) not a pub person b) not a London person c) not (so far as i know) an ale person. happy birthday, anyway. i'll have a pint of Bombardier and at some point this week i'm sure, for seasonal-ness.

I have a previous engagement tomorrow evening. I will be at the Pembury this evening, however.

What could be more sensible the night before an early start for Whitby than going to the Pembury and drinking a large heap of BEER?

Is this St George's Day of which you speak tomorrow? In which case alas I shall be in Chiswick. In the pub, obv.

My inlaws tell me that St Patrick's day is only for ex-pats. So, clearly you should move to *Ireland* and instigate St George's day.

ION, as noone in my school is striking on thursday, I can't re\ally stay out late on wednesday. Sorry. Have a good one, though.

If I can get there from Holborn I'd love to.
